Have a patient with otitis externa? Thinking about prescribing them Cipro drops?

Cipro otic drops are very expensive. I get more calls from the pharmacy and/or a patient about the Cipro otic drops not being covered by insurance then almost any other medication. The cost? $200+!

It is absolutely ridiculous. I had otitis externa while in Costa Rica, the doctor down there dispensed Cipro otic drops to me. The cost? $20….

Cipro is expensive, there are cheaper alternatives.

Consider Cortisporin or Ofloxacin drops instead, they are usually covered and much cheaper!

Remember, Cortisporin is not safe if there is a perforation while Ofloxacin is though!
