This tip comes from a pain management colleague of mine.

If you have a patient on chronic opioid therapy, consider having them take magnesium 500mg twice a day.

Magnesium will help reduce the need to increase the patient’s opioid dose due to developing a tolerance and also help prevent the constipation associated with chronic opioid use.

Additionally, magnesium is a muscle relaxant and could potentially help reduce muscle spasm in chronic pain sufferers.

One of the best parts? Its dirt cheap as well!

    1. It doesn’t really matter that much. I personally find most patients feel benefit from Mag Glycinate or a Mag “complex” that has all the various forms in one!
