This tip comes from a pain management colleague of mine.
If you have a patient on chronic opioid therapy, consider having them take magnesium 500mg twice a day.
Magnesium will help reduce the need to increase the patient’s opioid dose due to developing a tolerance and also help prevent the constipation associated with chronic opioid use.
Additionally, magnesium is a muscle relaxant and could potentially help reduce muscle spasm in chronic pain sufferers.
One of the best parts? Its dirt cheap as well!

Mag Citrate or Mag Sulfate?
It doesn’t really matter that much. I personally find most patients feel benefit from Mag Glycinate or a Mag “complex” that has all the various forms in one!
Thank you. I also give my patients 400mg daily for migraine.
Absolutely, it works great with migraine patients!
