Greetings my nurse practitioner sisters and brothers,
This is the fourth installment of our “Interviews with Elite NPs” series where I will interview various nurse practitioners who have utilized Elite Nurse Practitioner content to help build a life where they live on THEIR terms. The goal of the articles in this series is to enlighten many of you that might be on the fence about diving into nurse practitioner entrepreneurship on how possible it really is.
Here are interviews #1, #2, and #3 if you have not read them yet.
The nurse practitioners interviewed in this series are REAL and have started their practice in just the last 1-2 years. It has been my honor to have assisted these fine nurse practitioners who took the appropriate steps to start their own business and most importantly, had the courage to take ACTION instead of suffering from analysis paralysis.
The fourth nurse practitioner in this series is Judith Casey out of New Hampshire. She started a men’s health clinic just 3 months ago and is absolutely killing it! She has had some fantastic marketing luck on her side as her husband has a large contact list! Regardless, she took the most important step of all, and that was actually getting started and taking action! She has kept her expenses fairly low and provides the most cost-effective services in her area. She continues to work at a long-term care facility and operates her men’s health practice on the side (following the Elite NP Model!). She already has expansion plans for the near future and is setting her eyes on long term growth. You can check out her men’s health clinics site at https://www.cuttingedgetestosteronetherapy.com/.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself: How long have you been an NP? What has been your background as an NP? Where do you practice? Where are you at in life in terms of your age, financial goals, or anything else you would like to share with The Elite NP readership to help them understand more about yourself.
I have been practicing as an Adult-Geriatric N.P. for more than 4 years. After graduation, I applied to and was accepted into a fellowship program. I had the privilege of working alongside a physician with more than 35 years in the medical field during the fellowship. I am proud to state I was their first graduate! My experience in primary care continued for the same practice where I often provided care to complex patients. I enjoyed the varying types of patient demographics but did not like the stringent schedules and time constraints. A friend told me of a position in a long-term care/skilled facility closer to home that would offer a higher acuity patient population. The fit was perfect! The hours are flexible and there are not time constraints so I can focus my energies elsewhere.
2. What made you shift your mindset from “employee” to “entrepreneur”? Basically, why did you want to start your own practice?
The end of 2020 my husband and I created “Cutting Edge Testosterone Therapy LLC”. The business came to light after weeks of envisioning ourselves utilizing our strengths and experience. We also wanted to operate a business that would afford my husband the flexibility and financial freedom to “retire” from his long career in corrections and law enforcement.
3. What type of practice did you start and why did you pick the niche service line you chose?
We opened a Men’s Health Clinic with focus on TRT, peptides, vitamins, and wellness. These services are a perfect blend for us. My husband is a walking billboard for fitness and knows many men of all ages, therefore we knew we could get started fast. His contact list is endless and an instant marketing dream!
4. How long have you been open?
Officially we opened the practice January 1, 2021.
5. How successful has your practice been so far? If you don’t mind, please share with us some average revenue and expense numbers.
Our goal was to have 50 clients on the books by Summer. In less than two months we have exceeded that number! Revenue continues to increase weekly as we bring new patients aboard. Our gross receipts for February were $13,900! It is crazy! The business generated $10,000 the first month… Just crazy. We rent our space for $895 per month. This includes utilities and internet. Our secret is that our product pricing is competitive and affordable plus the connections my husband has!
6. What speedbumps did you come across as you started your practice?
The biggest issue currently comes from the lab drawing facilities. Like most everyone, we are contracted with Access Medical Labs. In NH, Convenient MD is considered an acceptable alternative to LabCorp. Unfortunately, our patients have been refused at Convenient MD for various reasons that include no ICD-10 codes and not having a printed requisition copy in hand (it is in their email). I have reached out personally to several of the Convenient MD locations in hopes of rectifying the issues…
7. What was the biggest personal fear you had to overcome to get started?
Biggest Fear – Generating enough income to sustain expenses in the early months. We invested $10000 of our personal money into the business to start it up. All the money has been made back in two months!
8. Tell us what surprised you the most about diving into the world of nurse practitioner entrepreneurism?
As a nurse practitioner in the world of entrepreneurism, the opportunities are endless. In addition to the Men’s Clinic, we offer Medical Cannabis Evaluations for our clients and client referrals. In one month, we generated enough money from the evaluations to pay our expenses! The clinic also treats women by referral, but we don’t advertise it.
9. Did you use any of The Elite Nurse Practitioner content or courses? If so, how did it benefit you?
I purchased many of the Elite NP courses including both Men’s and Women’s Health, Medical Cannabis, Telehealth and the Peptide one. The courses proved invaluable as they provide all the information and education necessary to operate a niche practice!
10. What are your future plans for your practice? What steps are you taking to accomplish those goals?
The Men’s Clinic continues to grow at a steady pace. We plan to expand soon, and this will include the following services: Botox, dermal fillers, and pellets. We would like to purchase our own building but only if the price and location are a good fit. A larger space would allow us to incorporate IV therapy in the future and give us an efficient work-out area for personal training. My husband is also a Certified Personal Trainer!
I love to hear about another nurse practitioner absolutely just killing it in their part-time niche practice! Congratulations to Judith for getting started and having an AMAZING launch of her new practice. I wish her continued success as she scales this clinic and continues to increase her professional freedom!

I’m very thankful that I found this website and Justin is very quick to respond to my emails. Justin is right! Yesterday was the right time to start opening our practice.
Absolutely, the more you procrastinate, the more you are simply delaying your future success. The best time to have get started was yesterday! Always here to help 🙂
