Psilocybin: the NEXT Medical Cannabis!

[catch-breadcrumb]

As states like Oregon and Colorado legalize the medical use of Psilocybin, there’s a growing recognition that this natural compound, found in certain species of mushrooms (magic mushrooms), will be on the forefront of alternative medicine. I personally believe it will be the next medical cannabis… this will not only benefit THOUSANDS of patients, but it will be one of the new gold rushes in healthcare. For those who have been in the medical cannabis space, you know what I am talking about. The clinics who first got in on medical cannabis made an absolute fortune because they were willing to take the risk when others were not… it will be the same with medical Psilocybin. The seismic shift in attitude toward Psilocybin is underpinned by research findings that have been nothing short of revolutionary if you are not aware. The potential is not just exciting for many patients, but it could be transformational to mental health in this country.

While Psilocybin’s therapeutic effects are still being explored, the results are VERY impressive. Researchers are uncovering a wide range of applications that extend well beyond the treatment of PTSD and depression. Here are some notable medicinal uses of psilocybin:

1. PTSD and Psilocybin

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating condition, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. Traditional treatment methods are usually underwhelming, and there’s a growing realization that Psilocybin therapy can provide relief. By facilitating guided Psilocybin experiences, researchers have observed remarkable reductions in PTSD symptoms. Many patients report less anxiety, a deeper sense of peace, and an improved outlook on life. Additionally, multiple studies are showing CURE rates of PTSD from psilocybin in the 60-80% range. Absolutely amazing.

2. Psilocybin and Depression

Depression is a leading cause of disability globally, yet traditional treatments such as antidepressants don’t work for everyone and can often make you feel dull (I know that’s how they made me feel when I took them years ago for 6 months…). Psilocybin therapy offers a novel approach to addressing depression. The compound has the unique ability to induce profound experiences that lead to shifts in an individual’s perception and thought patterns. This profound psychological shift often results in a significant reduction in depressive symptoms. Patients who have undergone Psilocybin therapy report a renewed sense of hope, a lifted mood, and a deeper connection to themselves and the world around them. Similar to PTSD, psilocybin research is showing astonishing results in the patient with depression and anxiety.

The research on Psilocybin’s medicinal uses is still in its early stages, but the findings so far suggest a wide range of possible applications. Conditions such as anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and substance use disorders are also being explored as potential candidates for Psilocybin therapy. As more studies are conducted and restrictions are lifted, the realm of potential applications could continue to expand.

I have a friend in Colorado who has battled with alcoholism for years. He recently has taken some macro doses of psilocybin at a clinic and has begun regular microdosing. No joke, his desire to drink alcohol has gone to zero. He has not taken a sip of alcohol for almost 12 months and has zero desire to. Absolutely amazing…

The Potential Emerging Medical Psilocybin Industry

Just as entrepreneurs who ventured into the early days of the medical cannabis industry have reaped substantial rewards, those who are willing to take calculated risks in the upcoming Psilocybin market may find themselves handsomely rewarded from both a monetary and professional standpoint. Seriously, those who took the risk in states that legalized medical cannabis did VERY well for themselves because they were the pioneers… It won’t be any different with psilocybin. Why? Here’s why:

1. Early Market Advantage

Entering the Psilocybin industry at its inception provides a distinctive advantage. Early adopters have the opportunity to establish themselves as key players, develop brand recognition, and build patient trust. They can fine-tune their business operations ahead of competitors, creating a foundation for lasting success.

2. A Growing Market with Expansive Potential

The market for Psilocybin therapy is on the cusp of remarkable growth. With a multitude of mental health conditions to address, there is a burgeoning demand for innovative treatments. As more states contemplate legalizing Psilocybin therapy, the market is projected to expand significantly. Entrepreneurs can scale their businesses, expand their reach, and contribute to a transformative shift in mental healthcare.

3. The Entrepreneurial Impact on Mental Health

The most substantial reward for entrepreneurial nurse practitioners in the Psilocybin industry is not solely financial but the chance to be at the forefront of redefining mental healthcare. By providing Psilocybin-assisted therapy, they have the opportunity to profoundly impact their patients’ lives. Witnessing positive transformations in patients suffering from conditions like PTSD, depression, and anxiety is a unique and deeply rewarding aspect of entering the Psilocybin industry.

While the Psilocybin industry’s promise is immense, it is not without its challenges and complexities. Navigating legal, ethical, and regulatory matters in this emerging field will be difficult. Furthermore, not all states have embraced Psilocybin legalization, and the landscape is still evolving. Therefore, keep an eye out in your state and surrounding states for legalization discussions. If your state still hasn’t legalized medical cannabis though, don’t hold your breath…

It is essential for nurse practitioners to stay informed about the ever-changing legal framework governing Psilocybin therapy in their respective states. Consulting with experienced legal counsel and experts in the Psilocybin field will be crucial for maintaining compliance and ensuring the highest standards of patient care once this happens.

The medical potential of Psilocybin is nothing short of revolutionary. Beyond addressing conditions like PTSD and depression, Psilocybin has the potential to offer effective treatments for a wide array of mental health disorders. Nurse practitioner entrepreneurs who embrace the emerging Psilocybin industry stand to gain both professionally and financially.

As the Psilocybin movement transforms mental healthcare, early entrants into this field have the unique opportunity to shape its future. I am serious: this could be the next gold rush within alternative medicine. Not only will you be rewarded monetarily, but you will be on the forefront of this amazing new treatment options.

* Reminder: Psilocybin is federally illegal, just like cannabis. This is a blossoming field and I wanted to enlighten everyone about its potential in the near future. So, keep your eyes and ears open. *

  1. Thank you for this post. I’m currently in NP school and having a psilocybin assisted clinic with other mental health services like ketamine is my goal when I graduate!
Any suggestions on where I can read more about current clinics or treatment? Not easy to find!

  2. I have done a 10 month psychedelic assisted therapy program and just completed psilocybin assisted therapy certification in Oregon. Please do not compare this to marijuana. The legislation in Colorado is still being worked on but will likely not allow for “clinics” to pop up. Providers will be certified through rigorous training programs. We need to respect this medicine.
