The Elite NP Podcast Episode 110: Transitioning Away from Insurance

[catch-breadcrumb]

Today we will be talking to Carolyn, a women’s health nurse practitioner (WHNP) currently operating a practice that provides women’s health, HRT, functional medicine, and basic mental health services. Carolyn is looking to rebrand her practice, specifically needing help narrowing down the services she provides since she’s providing more mental health services than she was expecting. Also, Carolyn wants assistance on how to start pulling away from insurance and transitioning to a cash-based practice.

During our conversation, we talk about the different options an insurance-accepting practice has to transition into a cash-based one. Important takeaways we discuss are to take things slow, make a gradual transition to ensure you’re not losing revenue suddenly, and diminish the number of insurance clients while you build up the cash-accepting side of your business. This will keep you in balance. You must taper out what you want to eliminate, whether it’s insurance payments or a service you provide that you don’t want to do moving forward, so your revenue isn’t impacted.
