The Elite NP Podcast Episode 112: Small Weight Loss Startup

[catch-breadcrumb]

Today we’ll be talking to Seth, a FNP currently working full time at a primary care practice but only four days a week. He wants to start his own weight loss practice since he’s already doing weight loss management and treatment at his current job but would like to venture out on his own. Seth comes to the show looking for help on how to organize his thoughts on the business startup process, how to manage the expenses and finances of the business, and what are the most important milestones for the process.

During this episode, Seth and I discuss a very important topic that every NP out there needs to remember… as a NP, you have a very significant skill set, and you don’t need an employer to do what you do! The sooner you realize this, the sooner you’ll be motivated to start your own practice where you don’t answer to anyone but yourself. It’s time to stop making somebody else money with your work and talent and start making that money for yourself. You simply create a low-overhead practice where you initially work part time while maintaining your main job. It’s the safest and most efficient route to start your journey toward financial independence.

  1. Hiya! Just got done with two courses, telehealth and mobile clinic. I got setup with Simple Practice and they’re not letting me collect payments for anything involving medications or personal visits. Otherwise they’re super robust. You guys highly recommended it. Is this your experience with them? Thanks!

  2. I am starting my own weight loss clinic. I’m in Alabama. If I order semaglutide and tirzepatide to have in my clinic, is it legal to give to patient at first visit if medically appropriate after doing a H&P? I plan to order labs at first visit but I am not sure if you can go ahead and get them started on treatment before lab work is back?
